Cristalerias Papini Lucile Blue Water Set
Description
This water set is called LUCILE. It was named for Lucile Britt who was the wife of my distant cousin, John Britt. Much is written about John & Lucile Britt and their passion for Carnival Glass.
In searching through our library of carnival books, we ran across this information on the LUCILE pattern in the HOACGA Tumbler Educational Series II copyrighted 1992. On page 99 of this booklet it states, "This beautiful and unusual pattern tumbler was named Lucile by Al Rodenhouse, in honor of Lucile Britt, a long time collector of carnival glass".
Our son Brett Britt and his wife Thelma were into Carnival Glass collectiong some years back and we traded four Grape & Cable punch cups for a LUCILE tumbler with them in 2002.
We purchased off eBay another Lucile tumbler from Dick Betker in 2005. In the meantime, Brett & Thelma had purchased a water set of a pitcher and four tumblers around 2008 at a Wroda Auction.
Brett had also purchased two more tumblers from South America that now made a complete set of a water pitcher & six tumblers.
In 2010, Brett & Thelma decided to sell some of their collection at auction. Judy & I were the high bidders for their Lucile water set at their May 1st, 2010 Wroda auction sale.
All this time we were living in Kansas and Brett in Ohio. So the long story is that we have a Lucile water set of a pitcher and eight tumblers. We hope to keep it in the Britt family.
Brett & Thelma are still collecting... so maybe they will want the set back someday?
