Imperial Flute #3939 Marigold Punch Bowl
Description
Not to be confused by Imperial Flute, the Imperial Flute 3939 is a seldom seen pattern which has also been found in green.
There were two types of pedestals used for this bowl. One is round and plain and the other one has an eight-ruffled bottom. These pedestals have a twelve-rayed pattern on top. The plain one is 5 3/4" tall whereas the ruffled one is 6 1/4" tall. All that ruffling added an extra half inch to its height. It makes a big difference in appearance when the ruffled version is used. It makes the punch bowl very elegant, fancy and frilly. I will switch them now and then. It's like putting on dancing shoes for special occassions.
The bowl is from 10" to 12" wide. It has a twenty-rayed pattern on the marie which is 3 3/4" wide. The cups have a fourteen-rayed pattern.
If the pictures look dark it is because this marigold iridescence is very deep and rich, almost amber in appearance.
These have been described in some older reference books as Wide Panel as well. There isn't a lot known about these and there aren't many examples to be found.
I giggled like a school girl at the thought that Imperial could possibly have made these in purple or smoke. Ou la la! I can dream, can't I?
