Cambridge Tomahawk in Blue ~Novelty~Toy~Souvenir~
Description
This beautiful Tomahawk, in the rare color blue, was made by Cambridge Glass Company. It was purchased by Ray & Shirley Henry at the Tampa Bay Carnival Glass Auction on February 11, 2017 from the Gary & Sharon Vandevander collection.
After the auction I did some research in hopes of finding some provenance on this little beauty. Gary Vandevander remembered buying it at a Seeck auction in 1999. With my reference of back catalogs, I discovered the only Seeck auction in 1999 that offered a blue Tomahawk was none other the the famous Whitley Auction at HOACGA. It was described as one of only two reported. Great provenance Ray & Shirley! See more about it here on Dave Doty's website.
Just before it sold at Tampa, Shirley sent me a message which I could see on my computer while I was at home bidding live on Auction Flex during this auction. Knowing how much I adore these little tomahawks, she apologized in advance that she would be bidding against me on this one. I told her to go for it and wished her luck.
Even without me bidding against her, she and Ray still had some stiff competiion with two other strong bidders, there in the auction hall, who really gave them a run for their money. But in the end they were victorious and I was very happy for them. They had wanted one of these for the longest time so this was a very good day for them.
Everyone I spoke to, who had attended that auction, remarked how pretty it was! It really is hard to find a pretty one in blue. This one is exceptional, just like my friends Ray & Shirley Henry. ~Christina
