Dugan Fanciful White Low Ruffled Bowl or Plate
Description
This stunning white Dugan Fanciful low ruffled bowl measures 9" in diameter and stands 1 7/8" in height. Some may call this a low ruffled plate, but we are of the mind that plates are not ruffled. This "almost" plate was a recent bargain on eBay. This proves the point that white, when done right, can be "out of sight"! The iridescence is phenomenal with a magnificent combination of various hues of violet, blue, pink and lime green.
Although very popular among collectors, Fanciful is not really a commonly seen pattern. It is estimated that it was in production only briefly, from 1911 - 1912. Therefore it was not produced by Diamond Glass, perhaps because the mould was destroyed in the February 5, 1912 fire that destroyed Dugan's mould and machine shop. White is the most commonly found color in bowls, followed by peach opal, amethyst, marigold, cobalt blue, oxblood and pastel lavender.
Note: Both photos were taken against a black background.
