Dugan Farmyard Purple 3/1 Edge "Bowl of Many Colors"
Description
Like Dolly Parton used to sing, "The coat of many colors, my Mama made for me." This bowl is like a crazy quilt of colors! It broke the rules that say you should buy Carnival Glass that has even iridescence all the way around. This bowl did not even try to pretend it was going to attempt that. The person who iridized it did this purposely, and in great detail....from the color on the individual birds' feathers to the sun shining down at 12:00, the blue sky at 10:00 and 2:00 and the dark farmyard earthen floor along the bottom half.
The iridescence is deep and rich with stretchy effects that seem to be marbleized. It is a happy, happy bowl and anyone would fall in love with it at first sight. It belonged to my friends and fellow collectors, Dick & Sherry Betker, who sold it on eBay to me on February 19, 2017. They say they have owned it for several years having found it in a local estate sale in Wisconsin where they live, not too far from where the Lincoln Land Carnival Glass club hold their conventions. They said the woman who owned it was very tight lipped and did not give any information about its history. She just knew what it was and how much she had to have for it.
This bowl sports the 3 in 1 edge treatment and has a back pattern called Jeweled Heart.
I must apologize to my friends on Facebook because at first, when I found out the Betkers were selling this on eBay, I was so excited for them that I posted it as a public message for all to see and consider. I announced the eBay sale and told everyone that if I did not already have THREE of these 3 in 1 edge bowls that I would not be telling them about this one that day. In other words I had not intentions whatsoever to buy this one.
Well, I must be a pretty darn good salesperson if I can adverstise something on Facebook for hundreds of people to see so that shortly after they could all bid against me after I convinced myself I had to have it. My excuse to myself to justify buying this one was that all four, including this one, are totally different from one another and what a great display they would make going from dark & demure to bright & happy. Like I said, these bowls are highly addictive and I cannot resist. I am weak....so weak...and so I apologize to my friends for outbidding them after I told them all they should have it. If that's not the craziest thing you ever heard!
Most sincerely, Christina
