Dugan Garden Path Variant Purple 6-Inch Plate
Description
~A Passion for Small Plates by Sandy Sage~
I love -- and am just a tiny bit obsessed with – collecting small plates. In carnival glass, small plates are generally 6 to 7 inches in diameter with some extending to about 7.5 or even 8 inches. There are three small plates we own that we consider to be outstanding examples and they are the top three plates in our collection. This Dugan Garden Path Variant is one of them.
In 2010 we flew to St. Louis, Missouri, to attend the auction of Floyd and the late Cecil Whitley. Bob and I had already made plans to attend the auction, but when we heard that Cecil had passed away it was essential that we attend. By now we had accumulated a modest 12 small plates for our collection and although there were some beautiful, and rare, small plates in the Whitley auction we did not have high hopes of bringing anything home with us.
There were things that we bid on and did not get, but we were happy to head back home with four beautiful small plates for our growing collection. A marigold Fenton Blackberry Open Edge 8-inch plate, a peach opal Dugan Garden Path Variant 6-inch plate, an amethyst Fenton Persian Medallion 6-inch plate, and the very rare and this beautiful purple Dugan Garden Path Variant 6-inch plate pictured.
Our collection of small plates has now grown to about 30. As I am still obsessed with collecting them, the search for more continues!
