Eda Sweden Charlie Blue Float Bowl
Description
I'd like to introduce you to Charlie. Charlie is not a person. Charlie is a gorgeous, mesmerizing float bowl. My dear friend Ellen Richardson and I treated him like person in our correspondence for a long time. I'll tell you the story.
This gigantic rare blue Charlie Float bowl, made by Eda, was a winning bid on e-bay in 2009 for Ellen. She had seen deep Charlie bowls before but this one did not give the dimensions. The fact that it looked large spurred her on to buy it.
When it arrived at her home, she could not believe her eyes. It was indeed a giant and could be the only one reported in this huge size. It measures 11.75" wide, 1.75" deep and has a base diameter of 5.5".
Ellen sold this bowl to me in February of 2016. Since she is from the UK, I asked her if she would send it to Nancy Young, also from the UK, because I had heard Nancy was coming to the 2016 Tampa Bay convention and had graciously agreed to bring it to the States for me since her baggage had plenty of room.
Ellen wrote about Charlie saying, "This gigantic rare blue Charlie Float bowl by Eda was a winning bid on eBay in 2009. I had seen deep Charlie bowls before but this one did not give the dimensions. The fact that it looked large spurred me on to buy it. When it arrived I could not believe my eyes. It is indeed a giant and could be the only one reported in this size. The deep cut diamond pattern which covers the exterior of the bowl really does highlight the amazing iridescence that Eda is renowned for, showing blues, greens, pinks and gold. The plain interior is everybit as eyecatching in colour."
Width 11.75 ins. - Base diameter 5.5 ins. - Depth 1.75 ins.
The last photo shows me unwrapping this jewel in Nancy's room during the convention on February 11, just before Valentine's Day. I must say, this was as decadent and much better than a box of chocolates! When held and tilted about to the light just right, the radium iridescence will literally blind you!
To give you an idea of its size, it is like a very big chop plate with straight up edges. As a matter of fact, if I ever decide to do a chop plate display at a convention, I will be sure to bring Charlie along with me. He merits the company of his brother chop plates. No offense Charlie, but you are as flat as can be!
