Eda Sweden Floral Sunburst Blue Mid-Size Jardiniere
Description
This was purchased in 2014 on eBay from a dealer who lives in Sweden. It sure is pretty. The radium iridescence is so different than anything else I have. The shine is so deep it appears to look like richly colored water. Click on the second picture and then click on it again for a close-up to see what I mean.
The mixture of turqoise, magenta and gold is stunning on the outside and the inside has hints of all three colors as well in a glowing, sensational kind of way. The inside bottom has a ring of gold and the magenta circles around the edge with gold filling in the rest. It's a fantastic halo of beauty.
There are three different sizes in these bowls. This one is the mid-size of the three. It measures 6.5" wide, 3" tall and has a base diameter of 3.75". The one smaller than this would have a diameter of five to six inches wide.
You know, Ellen Richardson has the largest version of this jardiniere (8" wide, 5" deep) in her collection, here on Showcase, as well. She mentioned hers is one hefty piece of glass! Now, I have to take this opportunity to say she has been a tremendous influence on me. They say if you hang around a barber shop long enough you're bound to eventually get a haircut. Well, with the fantastic display and exposure of Ellen's European glass treasures amongst us here every day, I couldn't help but fall hard for some of her pieces. I have to admit I was trying to resist a new avenue in my collection at first but she has opened my eyes to the beauty of her passionate collection which has further enriched our lives. I know all of us here on Showcase have done the same for her with ours and the joy of sharing continues.
