Faglaviks of Sweden Susanne Amethyst Vase
Description
I'd like to introduce you to "Susanne". This delightful pattern was named by Glen Thistlewood after Susanne Berg, the lady who reported the first example (shown below) to Glen after she purchased it on a Swedish internet auction in May 2012. Pretty, isn't it? Thank you to Susanne Berg for this photograph.
Thank you to the Thistlewoods for their lovely article they sent me from their ebook "Carnival from Sweden", which is available on their website here.
Everytime I open this beautiful reference material my heart starts to beat so fast; the colors and history are fantastic!
I purchased this example from my friend Fredric Hultman from Sweden in August of 2016. This vase is the same shape as the Spiral vase made by Faglaviks, shown here on Showcase. It's measurements are a tad smaller than those of the Spiral. It's 4 1/2" tall, 3 5/8" wide at the top, 4 1/2" at its girth, and has a base diameter of 2 3/4". It was mould blown.
The color is a very pretty light amethyst, almost pink like a vibrant dusty rose, which plays off the pattern so well. Glen describes this pattern best when she says, "Vertical and horizontal ribs are the predominant features on this vase, giving a fine “waffle” effect (the vertical ribs are a little more dominant). The moulded design is continued all over the base. The top of the vase is ground."
The waffling effect creates a sparkling of color in several shades of pink. It actually twinkles!
So, now there are two reported shapes in this lovely pattern Susanne. Thank you to the Thistlewoods for helping me write this article. It was a wonderful journey!
