Fenton Diamond & Rib Purple Jardiniere Whimsey Vase
Description
I purchased this purple Diamond & Rib flared-out jardiniere from my friends, Emmett & Dorothy Morgan of Texas, during the 2016 HOACGA convention.
This jardiniere is 7 1/2" high with a 5 1/4" base and has a 10 1/2" wide flare. Rare? This might be the only one.
Pristine? A lot, like 90% of jardinieres that were shaped into whimsey form or flared or pinched in or pulled out at the top, have a crack, exactly like this one. Coincidence? I don't think so. The percentage's are just too high.
It surely seems that when one would try to re-shape this vase from a standard jardiniere, the thick glass would not reform and would fracture. This is a big heavy piece of glass and, not wanting to throw it away, it was sold as is. This is the opinion of Frank Fenton, from the Fenton Glass Co., where this vase was made as well as the opinion of two major carnival glass auctioneers. It sure makes sense to me as well.
