Fenton Thistle Green Plate
Description
This green Fenton Thistle plate was purchased in 2015 off of eBay from a longtime collector in the Northeast. I do not believe he is very active in the clubs and/or conventions; the closet collector we all talk about. This piece sat on eBay for several months before I contacted him.
From the picture you might ask why as it is a "10" (in my opinion) for these rare plates. Well, this is actually a good piece in regards to damage or manufacturing flaw. The marie/base has a good bit of glass that is missing. It looks as though possibly it was hit against an item in the manufacturing workplace (such as on a table) while it was still hot. Upon closer inspection, you can see the tool marks around the back of the plate where it was attached again so it could be re-fired. I can tell this was done after the iridizing salts were placed. I took this plate to the Texas Carnival Glass Club convention for "Show & Tell" and all agreed that the base and "damage" were consistent with my theory. We all have opinions on damage and manufacturing flaws; I sure hope I look this great when I'm over 100 years old.
