Imperial Scroll & Flower Panels Purple Vase No. 3
Description
I consider myself very fortunate to own a Scroll & Flower Panel vase, though it has considerable damage. Many years ago, a prior owner took great pains to glue the bottom pieces back together, so that it is very stable. The repair is obvious, and sharp edges can be felt, so I handle it carefully on the few occasions it comes out of the curio cabinet.
For several years, I clerked at a monthly antique auction in the small historic town of Abbeville, South Carolina. I believe it was 2008 when this piece was consigned to the auction, and I was able to purchase it for my very low opening bid. The next piece to be sold was an amazing Imperial stretch bowl in amethyst, and I purchased it the same way. The two pieces have been together for a long time, so they now share a shelf with a comparable Imperial Grape decanter. They are excellent examples of Imperial's amazing iridescence, and I am lucky to be their caretaker.
