Karhula Finland Baltic Fruits Marigold Bowl
Description
My first purchase of 2018 turned out to be a bowl I knew nothing about or had seen before. I received an email from a seller, whom I had previously purchased from, containing a picture of the fruit bowl and a large 10" Eda/Riihimaki Four Flowers bowl. asking me if I would like to buy them. The Four Flowers is a favourite of mine, so the answer was always going to be a yes, and the colouring on the fruit bowl was so deep it made me want to find out more.
After a couple of evenings of searching with no joy, I knew I had to ask the great Carnival Glass community for help, and as always, the answer was given. It was a Karhula of Finland Baltic Fruits bowl.
It measures 8 1/2 inches wide and 6 1/2 inches high. The fruits are alternating apples and pears on the outside of the bowl. They are sunken into the bowl, or intaglio as it is called, instead of standing out or raised. The fruits play quite nicely with the light. The marigold colour is very vibrant. I was told it also comes in pink and blue and in two other forms, an underplate and a jardiniere, which I would love to see.
