Maker Unknown Four Flowers Variant Emerald Green Bowl
Description
I have always been fascinated with Four Flowers Variant and have been wanting to have one for sometime. The fact that it was named after Dugan's Four Flowers, due to the resemblance, except for the extra four flower buds in between the crossing arches or crescent. But until now, there have been debates and research on its origin and maker.
The details are clean and look amazing in the actual. I have seen a few around being sold or put to bids but the pieces were not "talking to me"... crazy as it may sound but most of my pieces I have acquired have some sort of connection and ended up being admired by a few people.
I was looking through an online bidding site and I saw this piece, it was pictured with a white background so it looked not so outstanding but I developed an interest in it and the connection was there. So I waited for the final day of the auction and put my highest bid on it and was surprised to have gotten it with minimal opposition. Not only that, I ended up winning four items in total and all in green. Maybe it was because St. Patrick's day was a few days to happen and the leprechaun must have been generous to me... lol... Anyways thanks heaps to everyone who has enjoyed looking at it and appreciated its beauty. Cheers!

What a breathtaking beauty Gio's Four Flowers Variant bowl is. A stunner, a real show-stopper, made even more fascinating because of its mystery. We've been bewitched by the Four Flowers Variant for more years than we care to name (*confession* . we purchased our first example around thirty years ago and it has held us in its magic ever since).
Known in bowls and plates in two broad sizes (regular ones are approx. 9 inches, while the large bowls and chop plates run to around 11 inches) the Four Flowers Variant can be found in a variety of colours in which shades of green and purple predominate. The base of the Four Flowers Variant is always ground and often there's a thumbprint exterior design.
So, what about the $64,000 question that's on everyone's lips? Who made the Four Flowers Variant? We've been working on this challenge for decades, but the bottom line is that the maker of the Four Flowers Variant is not known, although we feel it is likely to have been made in Europe (probably in England). We have theorised about the possibility that Sowerby or Greener-Jobling might be the maker, but the fact is that for now, we don't know for sure.
To add even more mystery to Mystery, there's even a variant to the Variant: we called it the Four Flowers Variant Hybrid, and it also comes in two sizes. Then there's the Mystery Grape that we believe is a "sister" pattern to the Four Flowers Variant on account of multiple matching characteristics.
Congratulations to Gio on acquiring this beauty, and many thanks to Christina for adding our thoughts and comments here. If you'd like to read more about the Four Flowers Variant (and also the Hybrid and the Mystery Grape) here's a link to the article on our website called
