Millersburg Big Thistle Amethyst Punch Bowl Flared Out
Description
This beautiful punch bowl is very rare and is one of two bowls, complete with their pedestals, known in this pattern. There may be a third bowl known with some damage and no pedestal. No punch cups have ever been found.
This one is in excellent, undamaged condition. It sat in the Randy & Jackie Poucher Collection in Florida for over ten years after they had purchased it at a Burns auction in 1996 in Strongville, Ohio featuring the Leon Spangler Collection. They sold it at auction during the Wroda Customer Appreciation Sale in Greenville, Ohio in 2007 where Ray Miller made it his. Yes, this monumental bowl found its way back to Millersburg, Ohio where it joined Ray's outstanding Millersburg Glass collection. After six years of sharing and enjoying this extraordinary example of Millersburg at its best, Ray graciously sold it to me in 2013. It was one of the most memorable and happiest days of my life.
This is truly one of those dream pieces most collectors, in their lifetime, only hear about or see in photos. I am very grateful to Ray for entrusting me with this iconic piece. He committed it to me knowing I will show and share it, as he did, for several years to come. It is a true honor to have the privilege of being its next keeper.
This is the flared out version which you may compare to the straight up version, the only other one known, owned by Randy & Bo Jones. Pictures and its story can be found here on the Carnival Glass Showcase.
