Millersburg Hanging Cherries Amethyst Bowl With Hobnail Back
Description
I happened upon this 10-inch Millersburg "Hanging Cherries" amethyst bowl on Etsy. It seemed out of place, as it was listed by a shop that specialized in mid-century modern items. Although the asking price was not out of line for this rare bowl, it was incorrectly identified as a "Harrisburg" piece. I kept my eye on it, sure someone else with a keen eye would scoop it up.
It didn't sell for a couple of months, and the listing was finally corrected to say Millersburg. Not only that, but the price had been reduced! I instantly bought it at that moment!
I messaged the shop for the back story on the bowl. The lady said she had bought it at an estate sale in the Seattle, Washington area because she liked the colors of it. It was not typically the type of item she would buy. It ended up going to a glass auction where it received some interest...but no buyers. There were some other sellers who even convinced her to lower the price on the bowl after showing her what had to be extremely dated data from older carnival glass books (and not even taking into consideration the hobnail backing!). It was at that point she updated the listing for the bowl in her Etsy shop.
I am very honored and lucky to have found such a piece!
