Northwood Fine Rib Sapphire Opal Vase
Description
This rare and unusual vase was sold to us as aqua opal, but is actually sapphire opal. I have always equated sapphire to be the color of Windex, more blue than aqua, and this vase is the color of Windex.
This beauty stands 11 3/8" in height at the back and tapers down to 9 1/2" at the front bottom lip. It has a 4 3/4" top flare and stands on a 3 1/2" base.
The opalescence is mostly confined to the lip of the vase in a narrow, but discernible band.
I know in the past, an aqua opal example with "slight opal" sold in the year 2000 for $550. Northwood's Fine Rib has been found in sapphire before, but this is the first one to be reported in sapphire opal.
All but the last photo were taken against a black background.
