Northwood Grape & Cable Variant Amber 9" Plate
Description
This beautiful plate is not listed as amber anywhere that I can find. My good friend and fellow collector, Mike Carwile, purchased it during one of his road trips in 2014 and thought I would like to have it. Leave it to Mike to find those very unusual items that many people overlook. Mike's keen memory of what patterns are found, in only what colors is amazing. I admire this trait. Of course it can only come from years of experience and collecting, not to mention having written all those books on Carnival Glass. His natural curiosity and his love for Carnival glass have gone hand in hand to bring us much appreciated information and self satisfaction for himself. It's never about the money with Mike.
This plate is 9" wide and 1 1/2" high. It has the basketweave back pattern. Mike and I agreed it was either amber in color or horehound and, at times, it even has an olive green tinge. It's so pretty, it has the same subtle charm of lavender. Either way, these colors aren't listed under the 9" variant of this pattern so I think it's pretty special, that is...pretty and special!
You can tell the Grape & Cable variant plates from the regular ones by looking to see if there are tendrils meandering into the center of the bowl. There are none in the regular pattern. Also, the grapes are kind of funky shaped and not very uniform on the variant.
