Northwood Grape & Cable Amethyst Master or Banquet Size Punch Bowl Set
Description
I purchased this top notch example of a Grape & Cable Master purple punch bowl set through a friend who attended the 2012 Seeck Auction featuring the Schleede Collection. The auction was held in Mason City, Iowa.
I already have one like this in purple that I absolutely adore but this one has the electric WOW! factor. It's hard to walk away from iridescence like this. It surpasses anything I have ever seen in a purple master. Even better, it's the total package. It's extraordinary inside and out.
The inside is like a radium pool of water in blues and golds. The outside is most outstanding, all covered in electric blue with gold highlights. For me, the catalog photo said it all. I thought, if anything, it would look even better in person, and it does.
This punch bowl is so pretty it was featured in an article in the February 2015 Carnival Glass Society UK newsletter, a club of which I am a member. I had no idea the club was going to feature it. I recognized it immediately as a wide smile beamed across my face. It sure is special, I agree.
It measures 14" high and 16" wide. It's quite massive and heavy. These banquet size punch bowls were the largest items made in Carnival Glass. When I obtained my very first master, I found I had a hard time getting used to its size. Every time I walked into the room, it would literally startle me.
It's just amazing how they command the center of attention and spark up exciting conversation from those who have never seen one. I like to think of them as Northwood's Crowning Glory.
