Northwood Grape & Cable Variant Marigold Tulip-Top Punch Bowl
Description
This punch bowl is cupped in like a rose bowl, also known as a tulip top. It is 10 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" across. It is in beautiful condition. I took it to the Bill Richards auction to show Billy, Jr. and Tom Burns. Tom said it was the variant and that, in his opinion, the base and top match perfectly and have been together from the beginning. Billy agreed. I have never seen Tom get that excited. He said he never dreamed he'd ever see one of these or that even existed. It's the only one he has ever seen. I had to hide it as people were wanting to buy it!
Where did I find it? Well, here is the rest of the story. I read an ad in the paper about an estate sale in Akron, Ohio with about one hundred pieces of old carnival. I arrived at the sale. They said they were taking bids on the carnival as it was the first day. I asked, "What is the high bid?" on this punch bowl. Then I sprung my high bid on them and the bidding came to an end. They knew they had a live one and they sold me all the other pieces I wanted. It was a real nice day and a rare happening.
