Northwood Rose Show Pastel Aqua Opal & Pastel Lime Green Opal "Twin" Bowls

Description

We call our two pastel Rose Show bowls "Our Twins" even though they have different base colors. I guess that makes them fraternal twins. One is pastel aqua opal and the other is pastel lime green opal.

The aqua opal bowl was purchased in 2008 from fellow Texas Carnival Glass Club members Rodney and Brenda Jacks. Bob and I were able to visit Rodney and purchase some pieces from their collection before they sold it at auction. I don’t think we had ever seen an example of pastel iridescence on a piece of aqua opal and it was love at first sight. The Jacks had a great eye for color and iridescence and the outstanding glass in their collection showed it. Rodney and Brenda were fortunate to purchase a number of their beautiful pieces, including the aqua opal Rose Show bowl, from Jerry and Art Delan of Georgia. This bowl is one of our favorite pieces in our collection and we feel fortunate to have it. It is pictured in photos 1, 2, 3 & 4 and on the left in both pictures 5 and 10.

We never thought we would find another Rose Show bowl with the same pastel iridescence and never really searched for one. When the 2015 HOACGA auction pieces from the Bud Martin collection were put online Bob and I were excited to see what looked to be a piece that looked a lot like our aqua opal bowl. As some of you may know, Bud Martin loves Northwood and pastel colors. His Northwood Rose Show bowl that we saw online (shown) was a gorgeous lime green opal. We couldn’t wait for the convention and our chance to see it in person and we were not disappointed when we saw it at the auction preview. Of course we couldn’t go home without it and it now sits next to its aqua opal twin in our pastel cabinet. It is pictured in photos 6, 7, 8 & 9, and on the right in both photos 5 & 10.
