Rindskopf Czech Republic Classic Arts Marigold Covered Sugar Bowl or Marmalade Jar
Description
This unusual item was made by Josef Rindskopf (Czechoslovakia) and is quite unusual in that this is one of the few Carnival Glass patterns that features the human body. This is the covered sugar or marmalade jar. There are also vases and an open sugar available in this unique pattern. They only come in marigold. It is a sister pattern to Egyptian Queen, which also features a wrap-around frieze of human subjects.
The Classic Art's frieze is composed of three repetitions featuring a dancer with veils possibly playing a tambourine like instrument, a seated man playing a harp, a toga covered man playing what seems to be two trumpets and finally a caped dancer. The three sections are separated by a planted urn. Hand-drawn details can be seen in the Rindskopf catalogue prints, courtesy of Bob Smith, from Boston, Massachusetts.
It's dimensions are as follows: 5 1/4" in height with the lid on, 3" without, 4 1/4" diameter, 2 1/4" circular gound base. The frieze is 1 1/4" in height.
This lovely specimen came to us from the Clifford and the late JoAnn Ball collection of Olathe, Kansas.
