U.S. Glass Cosmos & Cane Marigold Bowl Variant
Description
I found this Cosmos & Cane bowl listed on eBay when I was randomly perusing carnival glass listings. The listing for it was titled "Marigold carnival glass deep bowl orange flowers daisy".
At first glance it looked like an average Cosmos & Cane bowl, but the picture didn't do it much justice. I clicked through the other pictures of the bowl and noticed something odd. Instead of the usual collar base, this bowl didn't have one. Furthermore, the design continued into the base where the marie would normally be. I knew at that point that this was a special bowl!
The bidding started at $9.99 and would last for six days. I decided to watch it, as opposed to immediately bidding on it. During that time, nobody bid on it. Finally, it came time when the auction was about to end. In the last few seconds of the auction, I placed a higher max bid on the bowl, and hit the button to submit my bid. I'm glad I had submitted a high bid offer, as someone else (who clearly had a keen eye as well) had bid on it at the last second, too! My offer beat their offer, and I got the bowl!
It measures 8.5 inches across the top. More research is on its way on this unusual Cosmos & Cane bowl.
So far, we know is that it's made from a 5-piece mould; four pieces around make the sides and one round piece makes the bottom. Also, if this bowl were to be flattened out to make a chop plate, it would be 13" wide.
