U.S. Glass Pattern No. 15093 "The States" Green Three-Handled Bonbon Bowl
Description
"The States" is a pattern that was manufactured by the U.S. Glass Company. This rather large, iridized bonbon measures nine inches from handle to handle and is the only one known of its kind in this color and shape. The golden iridescence, front and back, is very subtle.
This item was originally purchased by Mike Carwile some years ago on eBay for his friend, Gary Vandevander. It was later purchased at the 2017 Tampa Bay Convention auction by Russell & Deena Colleran of Florida. It was later consigned for auction at the NECGA convention in September of 2018 where it was purchased for me by my friends Emile & Robin.
Mitchell Stewart, collector and historian of glass, tells us this is the U.S. Glass pattern #15093, called The States, which is, oddly, not part of the "States" series by U.S. Glass. It was introduced in 1905. Being called "The States" and not being one of the States pattern series is just too similiar to explain sometimes. It is often confused with the "Massachusetts" pattern #15054 which is on page 144 of Book 5 US Glass from A TO Z. The difference being, the cane type patterns in The States piece are in circles whereas the ones in the Massachusetts bowl are in a V-shape.
