Northwood Grape & Cable Sapphire Stippled Plate
Description
I have attended every HOACGA convention, starting since 1990. I have had the privilege of learning from lots of folks. Made many friends along the way. Lucky enough to see and hold enumerable pieces of carnival glass. Many common, scarce and rare pieces. Does not make me an expert, not hardly, just an extremely lucky individual.
In the 2006 convention, the Bingham collection was the auction that year. I remember a great amount of publicity and excitement. Pete and Paula put stickers on the back or bottom of each piece. That would allow people to remember it as part of their collection, provenance as you will. Jim Wroda held the auction and seat cushions commemorating the event were given to everyone attending the event. I still have mine, believe it or not.
There were many great pieces in that auction. I don't remember getting any of those pieces, but my budget was much tighter back then. So, off to new homes for that collection, a good time had by all. Probably about one to two years ago, I was able to purchase a Sapphire stippled Grape & Cable plate, that had been part of the Bingham's collection. I purchased it from Woody Schaefer, who had purchased it from some auction for resale. I have no idea who owned it between 2006 and Woody Schaefer.
It's quite a beautiful nine-inch Grape & Cable plate with thin rib back pattern. Really nice iridescence with stippling by Northwood Glass Company. The sapphire blue color is wonderful, and the sticker the Bingham's put on, is still where they put it on before their auction.
